Christophe Dumas, PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Otago, is working in the exciting area of nanoparticles.
Nanoparticles, amongst many other things, are the key to develop a new range of possible drug delivery systems.
These two videos we created with Christophe represent nanoparticle formation within reverse micelles, commonly known as the microemulsion method.
In essence, reverse micelles containing either metal salt or a reducing agent are mixed together. They interact with each other, exchange their contents and a reaction occurs which results in nanoparticle formation.
